Ethical Choices

It is unethical to deemphasize negative test results in a report on your product idea because you would be withholding information that could change the minds of the product’s users. Although you may be trying to promote your product, it would be unethical to lead users to believe that they will only benefit from using it. For example, when promoting a new medicine, if a company deemphasizes negative side effects, a customer may believe that they will be healed after taking this medicine. That would be considered unethical because it would be possible that they would have a different reaction to the medicine. The ethical dilemma that the company faces is whether to provide all the information about a specific medicine, which may ultimately prevent a user from purchasing it, or to leave out vital information so they may earn large amounts of revenue. When thinking about which path to choose, the company must understand what is more important to them: money or customer loyalty.
