Audience Profile

9. The audience for a peanut butter advertisement is most likely adults who do the grocery shopping. Although children may be easily interested in a certain advertisement, they are not doing the shopping, and therefore do not necessarily have a choice on which brand of peanut butter they eat. The audience's may not have a specific attitude toward brands of peanut butter, although it may be difficult to persuade certain people who have always bought a specific brand of peanut butter. The audience would need to know specific details about the peanut butter such as smooth or crunchy, healthy choices, and similar details.

11. The audience for a cover letter sent along with a resume would be the potential employer. The audience should be interested in the cover letter because you are trying to persuade them that you are best for the position. The audience should also be open to people with different abilities, so the cover letter must aim to impress. The audience needs to know specific personal information, such as how to reach you, along with explanations of prior experience and reasons why you believe you would best fit this job.

Ethical Choices

It is unethical to deemphasize negative test results in a report on your product idea because you would be withholding information that could change the minds of the product’s users. Although you may be trying to promote your product, it would be unethical to lead users to believe that they will only benefit from using it. For example, when promoting a new medicine, if a company deemphasizes negative side effects, a customer may believe that they will be healed after taking this medicine. That would be considered unethical because it would be possible that they would have a different reaction to the medicine. The ethical dilemma that the company faces is whether to provide all the information about a specific medicine, which may ultimately prevent a user from purchasing it, or to leave out vital information so they may earn large amounts of revenue. When thinking about which path to choose, the company must understand what is more important to them: money or customer loyalty.
